Pentax K-5 II S vs Nikon D7100

Based on outward appearances, it can be all too easy to judge. Even the mention of the name can bring up preconceived form of what camera like. The trouble with Pentax is not that they can’t make a good camera. That has never been the case. Not the lens issue either, because they make some of the nicest lens around. The only trouble is that a K-5 II S is not made by Canon or Nikon. I don’t mean that in derogatory way, because I really like this camera. Its small, lighter and you can mount some tiny little limited lens on it also. The performance just goes to show that it can performs just as good as a Nikon. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t buy this Pentax. In fact I’d recommend it. Its just that if you slightly stigmatized by brand.. or not.

Google Maps Navigation on AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4

So if you’re like my friend who just got Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T, you will find out that you have to pay to use the navigation app.

That is because AT&T set AT&T Navigator as the default turn-by-turn navigation app instead of the free & amazing Google Maps Navigation.

How to disable AT&T Navigator

Go to Settings
Tap “More” tab
Select “Application Manager”
Swipe to the right for “ALL” applications
Scroll up and down and find AT&T Navigator
Tap Disable

There you go, the next time you open Google Maps and select Navigate, you won’t be forced to pay for AT&T Navigator anymore.

The regular Galaxy Nexus is too plain in my opinion. Across the pond, they sell the white variant - which is quite a looker! Sadly, they don’t come with the yakju build - which means they won’t get updates directly from Google. Of course I can reflash it myself, Google provides the factory images anyway.. but if I ever had any problem and need to repair / return it, I had to ship it back to the Old World. I don’t like that.

So I decided to get the Nexus from Play Store, import white OEM casing from Germany, and with the help of this teardown article from iFixit (plus their tool), I managed to get best of both world.

Yeay for a white yakju! Now where is my Jelly Bean? :)

The best camera is the one that’s with you. Most of the time, its my camera phone.

I took a picture of this flower this morning just before I got into my office. I just use the standard camera app that came with my HTC Vision (TMobile G2), and do minor enhancement with Camera Zoom FX. What I did is just bump up the contrast and saturation, then added the round corner. Check out the After and Before comparison below.
