For those who want to begin using git,

I consider these git commands to be essential:

git status
git log
git clone
git init
git add
git rm
git branch
git rebase
git fetch
git pull
git push
git log
git diff
git merge
git mergetool
git reflog
git remote
git reset
git checkout
git tag
git commit

They are not in order. I'm just picking it up randomly from my brain.

TRIM Line Breaks & Carriage Return on MySQL

The TRIM() function on MySQL remove leading and trailing spaces. But what if you want to remove line break / carriage return?

Its not pretty, but this works for me:

REPLACE(FIELD_NAME, '\r\n','')

Usage example:

Select FIELD_NAME
From TABLE
Where REPLACE(FIELD_NAME, '\r\n','')='NOLINEBREAK'

Goo.gl URL Shortener Power Tips - Analytics & QR Code

1. Add .qr to create QR Code

3.1 Update for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Limited

Yes, the Android 3.1 firmware update for Galaxy Tab 10.1 Limited (I/O) is finally out

Setting >> About >> Software Update >> Check for Update

It will download an update, ask for reboot and shows an installation progress bar during the usual Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 splash screen. The whole installation takes about 15 minutes, and voilà, three-point-one!

[Update]
A couple of findings after I play around for a couple of minutes:

everything is so much much smoother
we can set Home Screen Wallpaper and Lock Screen Wallpaper
a set of 5 system wallpapers... replacing the old one, not sure where they go...
resizeable widgets
a little tweak on the wifi icon, its now showing data activity
browser is now being recognized as tablet browser, instead of mobile browser (for example: gmail.com goes to the tablet (#tl) view just like ipad instead of m.gmail.com)
unlike 3.1 on XOOM, the browser does not have Quick Control

Driver for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Limited (I/O)

If you have one of this special baby:

and your tablet can't seem to connect to Windows...

This is what I did:

Download Samsung driver
Make sure the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is unplugged from the usb
Install the driver
Connect the GT 10.1
Windows will recognize Samsung Galaxy Tab and you can see your files.

Setting up FileZilla FTP Server on EC2

I'm sure there are better methods out there, but the good old FTP is still the de-facto way to copy files from one system to another. It is definitely not for production environment. But for most cases - where you just want your client to be able to read and send files to you - FTP is still the way to go.

Here are couple of steps that I did to set up FileZilla FTP Server on Windows Server 2008 EC2:

Install FileZilla FTP Server (Download it from FileZilla project)
Configure FileZilla Server. Here are the checkpoints:
- choose admin port (can be any unused port)
- choose listening port (default is 21)
- create user, choose shared folder and appropriate permission
Open up Windows Firewall for FileZilla Server
- go to Control Panel | Windows Firewall | Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall
- Do NOT choose FileZilla Server Interface. Choose this instead:
- Allow another program | Browse | Filezilla Server.exe (default: C:\Program Files\FileZilla Server\FileZilla Server.exe)
Open up listening port (default 21) on EC2 Security Group
- go to AWS Management Console for EC2 (https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2)
- on the left sidebar, choose Instances then identify your Windows Server 2008 instance and what security group its running at (default: default)
- on the left sidebar, choose Security Groups and pick the one that your instance is using
- on the Inbound tab, create a new rule:
  - Port Range: FileZilla listening port (default 21)
  - Source: 0.0.0.0
- apply the new rule
If you're connecting using FileZilla Client, make sure you are connecting using Active Connection (default is passive).
- Edit | Settings | Connection
- FTP: choose Active
- FTP | Active Mode: choose "Ask your operating system for the external IP address"
- FTP | Passive Mode: choose "Fall Back to Active Mode"
